There are 46 state certified family violence shelters plus one state certified family violence agency in Georgia. (A certified family violence agency offers all of the same required services as a certified shelter except for 24-hour shelter.)

Shelters are certified by the Georgia Department of Human Resources, Division of Family and Children Services Family Violence Unit using the Approval Standards for Family Violence Shelter Contractors, including the required Core Services. All certified shelters offer the following:

• 24-hour crisis line
• safe, confidential shelter accessible to victims 24 hours a day
• links with community agencies
• children's services
• emotional support
• community education services
• legal and social service advocacy
• household establishment assistance
• follow up services
• parenting support and education

All services are free and confidential.
