your client is in a single-parent assistance unit (AU), she must participate in countable activities for an average of at least 30 hours per week.
your client is in a two-parent AU (defined as one in which both parents are able-bodied and receiving cash assistance), both parents together must participate in countable activities for an average of at least 35 hours per week, or for an average of at least 55 hours per week if they are receiving federally funded child care assistance.
your client is less than 20 years old, has neither a high school diploma nor a GED, in order to meet the required minimum number of hours per week in a countable work activity, she must
  • attend a secondary school or its equivalent, and/or
  • participate in education directly related to employment.
If your client meets these criteria, she needs only to attend school in order to meet her work requirement.
your client is in a single-parent AU and participates in core work activities for an average of at least 20 hours per week, she may participate in one of the following non-core activities for the remaining hours required to meet federal work participation requirements:
  • job skills training directly related to employment,
  • education directly related to employment, or
  • satisfactory attendance at a secondary school or in a course of study lead to a certificate of general equivalence.
your clients are in a two-parent AU and together participate in core work activities for an average of at least 30 hours per week, either or both parents may participate in one of the following non-core activities for the remaining hours required to meet federal work participation requirements:
  • job skills training directly related to employment,
  • education directly related to employment, or
  • satisfactory attendance at a secondary school or in a course of study lead to a certificate of general equivalence.
